2012 NISSAN Altima

February 27, 2012 by staff

2012 NISSAN Altima, Nissan is recalling 976 2012 Nissan Altima and Versa sedans to fix a side curtain airbag problem, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

“These vehicles may be equipped with side curtain airbags that contain an incorrect propellant mixture for the initiator component used, resulting in insufficient output of compressed gas,” said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. “The side curtain airbags may not deploy, increasing the risk of injury.”

Nissan said no other Nissan vehicles are affected by this recall. It attributed the recall to a “supplier error” by Autoliv.

The Nissan recall is linked to similar issues that have been identified by NHTSA and other manufacturers. Toyota, Honda and Subaru recalled vehicles for similar airbag issues recently, said NHTSA.

Nissan dealers will replace one or both side curtain airbag modules. The recall is expected to begin on February 27. Owners can contact Nissan at 615-725-1000.

Inside Line says: If you own a 2012 Nissan Versa or Altima, be aware that a recall is in the works.
