2012 Ford Expedition, Ford is recalling 569 2012 Ford Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators because of inadequate welds on the head-restraint support brackets for the second-row right-hand seat, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Ford dealers have been told to stop demonstrating and delivering the vehicles until the repairs are made.
“These vehicles may have inadequate welds on the head-restraint support brackets for the second-row right-hand seat,” said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. “In the event of a crash, the seat head restraint may not provide the required strength, increasing the risk of injury.”
In documentation filed with the federal government, Ford said that as of January 13, there were no warranty reports related to the defect on vehicles in service.
Ford dealers will replace the head restraints on the affected vehicles. The recall is expected to begin on February 20. Owners can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332.
