2011 Nhl Free Agents2011 Nhl Free Agents, This period of NHL free agency 2011 was a boom or collapse of the New York Rangers. With a market as small free-agent center Brad Richards was the star coveted piece – and that was his goal from a long time. Saturday morning, the biggest difference maker in this class of free agents decided to join his former coach, John Tortorella, and the Rangers, agreeing to a nine years and 60 million. The agreement establishes a cap and hit 6.7 million; with the first five years of value and 50 million … ie the last four years and Richards will pay 2.5 million euros.

The Blue Shirts desperately needed a first-line center as the rotation of a young and inexperienced never really mesh with Marian GABORIK far right and could never take control of the top line. The 31-year-old had 28 goals and 49 serving last season with the Dallas Stars in 77 matches. Two seasons ago, had 24 goals and 67 serving in 80 games. The Rangers lacked a power play quarterback last season, and Richards also satisfies that need. He had seven goals and 22 assists on the man advantage last year – and 13 and 27, two years ago. The center has scored 20 goals in nine of his 10 seasons in the NHL, has a Stanley Cup ring from when I was with Tampa Bay and is also a Conn Smythe winner. Also known as a leader and a great two-way player, a definitive status to excel in Tortorella.

Decision comes after Richards comes after dozens of shots of the organizations that were interested. Los Angeles Kings went to see Richards to show him a video that included Kobe Bryant and Wayne Gretzky, for example.

The center reportedly left a lucrative contract on the table, offered by the Calgary Flames at age nine, and 64 million. Six and a half million dollars (the difference) is certainly a good deal of money, but in reality, and $ 60 million from the Rangers is no bargain at all. However, to see Richards leave money to join the Rangers and meet with his former coach is a great thing.

Larry Brooks of the New York Post explains why Richards chooses the Rangers:

Richards won the 2004 Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe Trophy in Tampa Bay to play the Rangers head coach John Tortorella present a point of sale. The Blue Shirts chose not to send a delegation of the suitors of executive meets with Richards in person at the offices of his agent, Pat Morris, on the outskirts of Toronto, like much of the competition.

The Rangers made their way by telephone. CEO Jim Dolan, GM Glen Sather, Tortorella, and special assistant to Mark Messier were among those who spoke to Richards, who reportedly received a medical report as clean as possible following the concussion he suffered last 13 February that sidelined him for four weeks and 10 games.

Artem Anisimov With Brian Boyle, Derek Stepan, Mike Rupp and Erik Christensen all centers, this means moving to another list on the horizon. Would be surprising to see Christensen Finally, Anisimov is a growing job at center, Stepan did well, but needs Rupp faceoffs and is also the solid core with good skills face to face. Boyle could be someone who moves to the wing.

No matter what the Rangers need to do, the firm of Richards is a great thing for a team that has a solid core of young players and has formed an identity Tortorella. Expectations certainly will rise next season.
