2011 Miss Usa Pageant, The Miss USA Alyssa Campanella crown passed to California on Sunday night as the 21-year-old beat 51 other contestants in the Las Vegas-based show. Campanella now represent the U.S. in the Miss Universe pageant in September, reports CNN. During the competition, the California girl wore a green bell and responded to an interview question about the legalization of medical marijuana. While saying that so uncomfortable with the idea, expressed her view that marijuana was medically useful.
While the audience was able to tune in and rate their favorite contestants through new technologies, was the judges’ opinions were the deciding factor. This year’s lineup included co-founder OPI Suzi Weiss-Fischmann for the actress Mariel Hemingway, rapper Lil Jon, Dallas Maverick Tyson Chandler, the famed chef Rocco DiSpiroto and magician Penn Jillette.
The audience included former winners of Miss USA, dating from 1953. According to CNN, each wearing a sash with the year of her victory and has appeared on camera.
Other finalists included Elizabeth Ashley Durham Tennessee, Alabama Mitchell Madeline and Ana Christina Rodriguez of Texas.
