2011 College World Series, North Carolina Tarheels (50-15) take on the Texas Longhorns (49-18) on Monday afternoon in the first elimination game of the 2011 College World Series. The two teams face to face at 2 pm ET with the game being televised on ESPN and live-online ESPN3.com.
Texas found its way in this elimination game after falling 8-4 to the Gators on Saturday Florda. North Carolina lost to Vanderbilt by a score of 7-3 on Saturday night. The winner of this game will face the loser of the Vanderbilt-Florida game scheduled for Monday night.
The winner has yet to win their next four games to win support # 1 and advance to the best of three championship series. Texas has played five elimination games in the 2011 NCAA tournament, while this game will be the first elimination of North Carolina this season. Texas facing elimination in the regional against Texas St, and then twice against Kent St. They also lost their first game of the super regional against Arizona State before having to win two straight games to advance to Omaha.
Vanderbilt (53-10) takes on Florida (51-17) at 7 pm ET Monday night on the side of the winner bracket # 1. The games will be shown on ESPN2 and live-online ESPN3.com. The winner will be in a position to play in the best of three championship series starting next Monday. The next game for the winner would not be until Friday and only need one more victory to reach the championship series.
Vanderbilt enters this game as the most balanced team in the country. No. 1 seed Virginia and North Carolina champion of national defense and the South are deservedly getting a lot of credit and visibility in Omaha right now. But Vanderbilt is currently ranked in the top 5 in the country in both batting average (.319 to 5 degrees) and ERA (2.38 third). Vanderbilt’s 7-3 victories against North Carolina was the game I’ve played the entire NCAA tournament so far. They won their region by a combined 26-3 and its super regional against the State of Oregon by a combined 20-4.
Florida comes into this game after placing five runs in four innings as a starter for Texas, and No. 12 overall pick in the recent draft of the MLB Milwaukee Brewers, Taylor Jungmann. It was eight and nine points in the batting order that sparked the offensive against the Gators Longhorns Daniel Pigott and Cody Dent at the helm.
Vanderbilt and Florida played four times last season and Florida went with three wins. Florida seemed to have the number of Vanderbilt so far this season and expect to continue in the College World Series.
