2011 2012 Bowl Projections

November 28, 2011 by staff

2011 2012 Bowl Projections, Florida State’s late season surge and Clemson’s…. well, Clemson-ing have altered the Chick-Fil-A Bowl picture greatly. Just last week the potential of an Auburn / Clemson match-up that would mirror the scheduled 2012 Chick-Fil-A Kickoff in the Georgia Dome seemed highly likely, but the Tigers’ loss to South Carolina will likely bump them down to the Champs Sports Bowl, according to Stewart Mandel of Sports Illustrated.

Auburn, despite being blown out by rival Alabama, is still holding as the favorite from the SEC for the Chick-Fil-A team, what with the Tide and LSU still projected to play in the BCS Championship, and Auburn neither eclipsing Arkansas or Georgia, nor falling below .500 teams Florida, Vanderbilt and Mississippi State.

Locally, Georgia Tech’s loss to Georgia on Saturday likely eliminated them from Chick-Fil-A contention among bowl officials, and the Jackets will likely end up at the Sun Bowl December 31.

Florida State’s win, combined with Clemson’s loss, means that the Chick-Fil-A Bowl would likely end up with the Seminoles for a second straight year, versus a Clemson team that could potentially be on a three-game losing skid if the Tigers drop the ACC Championship to Virginia Tech on Saturday, and set up a game they’d have to turn around and sell again in nine months.
